The Bulldogs are the football team of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Pioneer Football League.
📜 Butler Bulldogs Football History
Butler University fielded its first football team in 1884. The team competed as an independent college until 1931, with the exception of 1 year in the Indiana College Athletic League in 1916.
In 1932, the Bulldogs joined the Missouri Valley Conference, but this lasted for just 2 seasons. In 1934, the team moved to the Indiana Intercollegiate Conference, where they remained until 1947.
Between 1947 and 1992, Butler had spells in the Mid-American Conference, the Heartland Collegiate Conference, and the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference. The Bulldogs moved to the Pioneer Football League in 1993.
