📜 Bucknell Bison Football History
In 1883, students from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania travelled to the University at Lewisburg (now Bucknell University) to play a game of football. The sport was still very new, and after losing the game 59-0, Lewisburg students did not play football again for 4 years.
The Bison competed as an independent team until 1957, after which they joined the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation. This was followed by several more decades of independence from 1970 to 1985. In 1986, Bucknell joined the Patriot League.
The Bison won their first conference championship in 1996.
