The Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby Meeting – also known as the British Jumping Derby Meeting – is an annual showjumping event in the sport of equestrian and is held at Hickstead Showground in West Sussex, UK.
The prestigious meeting was first held in 1961 and it has always been considered one of the premier events in the sport's calendar. The standout highlight of the event is the Al Shira'aa Derby which is a 1,195-metre course featuring challenging obstacles and jumps including the ominous Devil's Dyke (3 fences with the middle one being a water-filled ditch) and the spectacular Derby Bank (a jump with a 10 ft 6 in slope).
Surrounding the Derby is a whole host of extra competitions – including the British Speed Derby and the Derby Trial, where riders qualify for the Al Shira’aa Derby – as well as plenty of entertainment, food, drink, and fun for all ages!
