Boney M. is a German-Caribbean vocal group originally founded by German record producer Frank Farian in 1976. The group was based in West Germany and initially featured four main members: Liz Mitchell, Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams, and Bobby Farrell. Boney M. became one of the most successful pop groups of the late 1970s with their mix of disco, Euro disco, reggae, and funk music. Their breakout hit, “Daddy Cool,” topped charts worldwide, followed by other hits like “Rivers of Babylon,” “Rasputin,” and “Ma Baker.”
Their album “Nightflight to Venus” achieved significant international success. The group gained immense popularity in Europe, America, and the Soviet Union during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Although Boney M. experienced various lineup changes over the years, their music continues to be celebrated, and their influence is noticeable in modern pop culture. While they are not actively releasing new music, members occasionally perform in reunion tours or special events.
