📜 Blackpool FC History
The club was founded in 1887 by members of Blackpool St John's, a local team that had emerged 10 years prior from the remnants of the disbanded church outfit Victoria FC.
The Seasiders enjoyed a successful start to life, winning 2 local competitions in their very first season, the Fylde Cup and the Lancashire Junior Cup. In 1900, they merged with another local side, South Shore, and took up residence at Bloomfield Road.
Blackpool enjoyed a strong post-war period with an extended stay in the top flight and reaching the FA Cup final 3 times in 5 years between 1948 and 1953; they lost the first 2 at the hands of Manchester United and Newcastle United, respectively, but triumphed over Bolton Wanderers to lift the trophy for the first time in the last of those.
In 1971, European glory beckoned in the form of the Anglo-Italian Cup. The following season, they finished as runners-up in the same competition.
In 2010 Blackpool ended a 39-year wait for top-flight football when they gained promotion to the Premier League, however they were relegated at the first time of asking.
