Pierreuse is Liège’s central inner-city neighbourhood, historic district, and the main shopping and dining district. It sits along the Meuse River, and is connected to other parts of Liège by the bridge, Pont des Arches. There is also a train stop here, connecting it to Guillemins, Liège’s main train station.
Outre-Meuse, the city’s old working-class neighbourhood and ‘Free Republic’ on the Meuse River island, has transformed in recent years to become a centrepoint of Liège’s culture and folklore. Sat just across the bridge from Pierreuse, it is industrial yet charming, and slightly cheaper than other inner-city neighbourhoods.
Amercoeur, the neighbourhood overlooking Outre-Meuse from the other side of the river, is much quieter, more peaceful, and upmarket. Yet, it’s only 2 km from the city centre, making it easy to explore Liège.
Guillemins is on the edge of central Liège, meaning it's slightly quieter than Outre-Meuse and Pierreuse, but still offers all the commercial benefits of the city, including top bars and restaurants. The city’s main train station is also located in this neighbourhood, so those staying here will have easy access to other parts of Belgium.
As Liège is relatively compact, it’s possible to explore the city on foot, but there is a reliable bus service to transport you around if you prefer.
