The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships is the world championship for the sport of beach volleyball organised by the sport's global governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).
First officially held in 1997 in Los Angeles, United States - though there had previously been 10 unofficial championships not organised by the FIVB which were all held in Brazil between 1987 and 1996 - the World Championships are the pinnacle of the sport. In the current format, men's and women's tournaments run side by side. Winning the World Championships is thought of as the highest honour in international beach volleyball, surpassed only by being victorious in the beach volleyball competition at the Summer Olympic Games.
The Beach Volleyball World Championships are usually held every 2 years. The next edition will take place in Adelaide in 2025.
