Barnsley FC are a professional football club based in Yorkshire, England. Nicknamed the Tykes, they play their home games at Oakwell stadium.
📜 Barnsley FC History
The club was founded in 1887 by Reverend Tiverton Preedy. Initially known as Barnsley St Peter's, they dropped the suffix 10 years later to simply become Barnsley.
Barnsley sensationally reached the FA Cup final in both 1910 and 1912. Although they lost the former to Newcastle United, they beat West Bromwich Albion in the latter to lift their first major honour.
Honours – and cup finals – have been more difficult to come by in the years since, save for a victory in the Football League Trophy in 2016.
The Tykes' first – and to date, only – season in the top-flight came in 1997-98, although they were relegated at the first time of asking.
