Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club SA – commonly shortened to AS Monaco or simply to Monaco – is a professional football club based in Monaco and currently playing in the French top tier Ligue 1. The club is unique in that it is not located in the France and plays home games at Stade Louis II.
Founded in November 1924, Monaco is of course based in the sovereign city-state on the Mediterranean but is one of French football’s most successful clubs having won numerous league titles, Coupe de France titles, and much more. As would perhaps be expected of a club from the glamorous microstate, Monaco has a significant financial backing allowing the club to bring in some top players.
