World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will make its long-awaited comeback to the infamous squared circle on 16 July 2021, in front of a packed arena of excited SmackDown fans in Houston. Besides WrestleMania, which opened to a limited number of fans back in March, WWE's star-studded roster hasn't performed in front of a live crowd since before the pandemic. It will also mark the return of WWE's annual flagship event Money In The Bank (18 July 2021 ), which is set to be one of the first prominent events with a non-virtual audience since Elimination Chamber 2020.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE has been screening its programs out of the Thunderdome as a way for professional wrestling fans to attend WWE events virtually. WWE launched the videoconferencing system and arena staging in August 2020, where it was used for television broadcasts and prominent events Raw and SmackDown.
WWE has also announced the dates for its comeback tour, which kicks off in July. Upcoming venues include Dickies Arena in Forthworth on 18 July, the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville on 25 July, and the AT&T Center in San Antonio on 16 August. If you're a wrestling fanatic, there won't be a dull moment this summer with multiple action-packed events filling up your calendar these next few months.
If that wasn't enough, WWE has also confirmed that one of its other most prominent events, SummerSlam, will occur on 21 August 2021. Now that the date has been set, fans are waiting in eager anticipation to find out where precisely "The Biggest Party of the Summer" will occur, particularly after last year's event was initially scheduled for Boston before the pandemic caused it to be cancelled.
Given the excitement around WWE's return to live events, SummerSlam 2021 tickets are predicted to sell out very quickly. If you needed further reason to attend, there have also been rumours that legendary wrestler John Cena is returning to WWE for this year's SummerSlam. The Doctor of Thuganomics and former world champion missed the opportunity to appear on WWE's WrestleMania back in March due to his Hollywood schedule. So, an appearance in August wouldn't be entirely out of the question!
From body slams to glitz and glam, WWE has been a staple in sports entertainment and popular culture since the 1980s. For its dedicated cult followers, the return of their beloved wrestling company will mark a critical moment in history.
