The UEFA Super Cup is an annual football event, founded in 1973, that pits the winners of the Champions League and Europa League against each other in neutral territory to definitively crown the ‘best team in Europe’.
This year’s match will take place on 24 September at Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, with fans in attendance. The venue will be at a reduced 30% capacity with approximately 11,000 tickets available. This makes it one of football’s largest attended games in over six months. The aim is to serve as a pilot for bringing spectators back to stadiums amid the pandemic.
Safety measures in place include the following requirements for ticket holders:
- Keep a distance of 1.5m from other spectators
- Wear a mask at all times covering their nose and mouth
- Wash and disinfect their hands whenever possible
- Undergo a body temperature check on entry to the stadium (fans with a temperature of 37.8°C or above will not be permitted to enter the stadium)
- Respect the seat numbers allocated by UEFA which ensure 1.5m distance between all ticketed seats (all tickets within one order will be seated directly next to each other)
- Not come to the stadium if they are suffering from any of the symptoms of COVID-19
- Not attend if they have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days or if they have been in contact with anyone over the past 14 days who has tested positive for COVID-19
In cases of points 7 and 8, UEFA will refund the face value of the tickets.
International visitors to Hungary will also have to undergo mandatory medical examinations during entry and present proof of a negative SARS-CoV19 PCR test that has been performed within 72 hours of entry. Furthermore, ticket holders will need to leave Hungary within 72 hours of entry.
Three categories of tickets will be available to the general public, ranging from €30 to €120:
- Category 1 – centrally positioned
- Category 2 – corner positions
- Category 3 – behind the goals
Separately, 3,000 tickets will be made available directly through the competing teams’ sports clubs, and 500 tickets to Hungarian health workers as part of UEFA’s ‘Thank You’ campaign.
