Often considered golf’s unofficial “5th major,” The Players Championship is a standout fixture on the PGA Tour each season. It’s easy to see why the tournament enjoys such a prestigious status; with a prize purse of USD $25 million, it has the biggest pot of any regular golf event, eclipsing even the majors themselves. What’s more, it also offers 80 Official World Golf Ranking points – more than any other event aside from the majors.
With so much on offer to the players, the tournament invariably attracts the game’s biggest and brightest stars each year, so fans are treated to seeing the best in the world battle it out at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The Stadium Course’s signature hole, the par-3 17th known as the Island Green, has become particularly iconic over the years as players face the unenviable challenge of landing their ball on a 24m green surrounded entirely by water. Indeed, upwards of 40 balls typically end up in the lake during each tournament.
This year, the event will take place from 7-12 March. Australia’s Cameron Smith is the reigning champion; he triumphed by a single stroke in 2022 ahead of closest rival Anirban Lahiri after racking up a remarkable 10 birdies over the course of the final round. He’ll be hoping to become the first player to successfully defend their title in this competition; while notable players including Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples, and others have won The Players on more than one occasion, none have done so in consecutive years.
General admission Stadium Pass tickets start at just $32, while a range of hospitality options are available starting at $98.
