Around this time of year, temperatures can surge above 100°F in Tennessee, but it’s not only the Volunteer State that’s heating up. On 30 July, WWE’s annual SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) is set to take place at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, meaning there’s a host of red-hot rivalries and fiery feuds about to catch flames in the famous squared circle.
SummerSlam, often referred to as the “Biggest Party of the Summer”, first took place in 1988. Since then, it has become one of WWE's “Big 5” PPVs, and arguably the company's second-biggest event of the year after WrestleMania.
In 2022, SummerSlam will make its first-ever appearance in Nashville when it visits Nissan Stadium, home of NFL’s Tennessee Titans. It’s a fitting venue for an event stacked with modern titans of pro-wrestling, from “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar to “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey.
With less than 2 weeks to go until the party begins, the line-up of matches for this year’s SummerSlam is already taking shape. While the whirlwind nature of professional wrestling means the card could always change, at present, the PPV will see Bobby Lashley defend his United States Title against Theory, Becky Lynch battle Bianca Belair in a repeat of their WrestleMania bout for the Raw Women’s Title, as well as a much-anticipated collision between The Street Profits and The Usos for the Undisputed Tag Team Titles.
Of course, any major show requires a grand finale, and on this front SummerSlam will not disappoint. Headlining the bill in Nashville will be a Last Man Standing Match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns for WWE’s Undisputed Universal Title. Similar to earning a victory by knockout in boxing, a Last Man Standing Match can only be won by incapacitating an opponent in such a way that they can no longer answer the referee’s 10-count. With pinfalls, submissions, and count-outs all rendered meaningless, this cataclysmic clash of giants is sure to linger long in the memory of those in attendance.
With as many ticket options as Nashville has honky-tonks, wrestling fans can enjoy SummerSlam from a seat that suits them best with the help of Koobit. From Upper Level seats for $40, through to exclusive On Location packages, there’s something for everyone when this summer gathering of grappling goes down in Nashvegas.
