Wrestling’s “Biggest Party of the Summer”, SummerSlam is WWE’s second-most prestigious Premium Live Event after WrestleMania. First held in 1988, the show has become an annual summer spectacular, featuring some of the best bouts of the year and appearances from some of the entertainment world’s biggest stars. From Shawn Michaels’ ladder match with Razor Ramon in 1995 to an emotional victory for Daniel Bryan over John Cena in 2013, SummerSlam has thrilled wrestling fans throughout the decades and remains a bucket-list experience for any fan of professional wrestling.
In 2023, SummerSlam is set to take place at Ford Field in Detroit on 5 August. It will be the first time since 1993 that the event has been staged in Michigan, and the first WWE event at Ford Field since WrestleMania in 2007.
Wrestling Superstars in action at this year’s SummerSlam will include Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar, and Charlotte Flair. Major titles like the World Heavyweight Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will all be on the line, making this one of WWE’s most high-stakes, high-profile events of the year.
What to Expect at SummerSlam 2023
WWE events are generally organized around a "card" of matches. Taking place one after another, these matches see 2 or more wrestlers pit their strength (and their wits) against each other in an attempt to achieve victory by pinning their opponent to the ground, or making them submit. Between matches, WWE keeps fans entertained with backstage interviews, interactive segments, and surprise appearances.
As one of WWE’s “Big 5” Premium Live Events – alongside Money in the Bank, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, & WrestleMania – SummerSlam is often home to some of the biggest matches of the year. Expect title belts to be on the line and scores to be settled during contests throughout the night.
Some of the most iconic battles in WWE history have taken place at SummerSlam over the years. These include a classic Intercontinental Title match between Bret Hart and British Bulldog at Wembley Stadium in 1992; the first-ever Tables, Ladders & Chairs match between The Hardyz, Dudley Boys, and Edge & Christian in 2000; and a highly emotional WWE Championship bout between John Cena and Daniel Bryan in 2013.

2023 Tickets & Prices
Ford Field is a domed American football stadium in Downtown Detroit. The venue is home to the NFL’s Detroit Lions, and held WrestleMania 23 in 2007.
Ford Field has a capacity of over 65,000. Tickets on the Upper level are available from around $87 at present, with ringside tickets closer to $230.
Standard Tickets
Seating at Ford Field is split across 4 main levels:
- Ringside Floor (Sections A–Y) – a fan favorite seating area, ringside floor tickets bring you up close to the action with seats on the arena floor, just feet away from the action
- Main Concourse (100 Level) – tickets on the Main Concourse provide close-up, slightly elevated views from the venue’s lowest tier of seating
- Mid Level (200 Level) – the middle tier of Ford Field combines value with wide ranging views that still don’t feel too far away from the ring
- Upper (400 Level) – seats on the arena’s top tier are a great place to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a bird’s-eye-view of the action
How to get Cheap Tickets
WWE tickets sell out quickly, so purchasing your tickets as soon as possible is highly recommended. For those who wish to wait until closer to the event, it is possible that some resale tickets may drop in price around a week before the PPV takes place, but this is still a risky strategy as demand could also drive ticket prices up.
Official tickets for this year’s SummerSlam are almost sold out, however a whole host of resale tickets are still available online. While cheap tickets are difficult to come by, wrestling fans can still secure fantastic seats.
