The race for the FedEx Cup is heating up as the PGA Tour heads into the summer months, with many of the world’s top golfers battling it out to be in the top 70 who progress to the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August.
Among those lurking just outside the cut in the standings are former FedEx Cup winners Justin Thomas – also a 2-time PGA Championship winner – and Billy Horschel, as well as former Open champion Shane Lowry and former Masters winner Adam Scott. There’s plenty of time yet and 2 majors still to be played, but with some big names potentially set to miss out it will be all to play for in the coming months. For many golf fans, it will be the most exciting part of the season and it should make for some unmissable drama.
At this stage of the campaign, performance in every event counts, and players will be eyeing the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the 500 FedEx Cup points available to the winner as another important stop on the Tour.
The tournament will be held from 26 June – 2 July at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan. Tony Finau – currently lying 4th in the FedEx Cup standings – is the defending champion. He put on a masterclass in 2022 to set a tournament-record score of 262 (26-under par), finishing 5 strokes clear of a chasing pack comprised of Patrick Cantlay, Taylor Pendrith, and Cameron Young.
As well as top-class golf, spectators will also get to enjoy events such as Detroit Community Day and the Area 313 Celebrity Scramble, which in 2023 will feature the likes of Detroit Lions legends Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, the Detroit Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin, long-time Michigan State University basketball coach Tom Izzo, NBA legend and Detroit native Chris Webber, and WWE Superstar “The Miz.”
Attendance during the practice rounds – which includes the Community Days and Celebrity Scramble – is free, while general admission Grounds tickets for the tournament rounds start at USD $70. Hospitality is also available, starting at $119. For more information on the Rocket Mortgage Classic, click here.
