The unique three-day event, described as the “Ryder Cup of tennis”, pits Europe against the World in a show-down for tennis supremacy. The tournament changes venue each year, taking place in Boston’s RD Garden in 2021 before its visit to London’s O2 on 23-25 September 2022.
Laver Cup Chairman Tony Godsick said, “We’re so excited to be bringing the Laver Cup to London, a city steeped in tennis heritage. The British fans love their tennis and the Laver Cup is like nothing they have seen before.”
“Over one amazing weekend we bring together today’s greatest players as teammates, alongside legends and rivals from previous generations to create a truly unique spectacle that has thrilled fans around the globe.”
The Laver Cup is played on dramatic black courts and tennis legends Björn Borg and John McEnroe captain Team Europe and Team World respectively. Its light-hearted approach to tennis does not come at the expense of quality, with some of the best players in the world taking part.
Roger Federer said, “London has always held a special place in my heart and it’s going to be incredible to bring the Laver Cup to one of my favourite cities in the world.”
The Laver Cup announcement comes as the O2 prepares to host its final ATP Finals tennis tournament in November 2020. After an 11-year run at the venue, the hugely successful event moves to Turin in Italy. Tennis fans will welcome the news of elite tennis being back at the O2, albeit for just one year… for now!
Ticket sales will be announced in 2021. Save the event to your account interests to receive further updates.
