In June, the 2021-22 Gallagher Premiership season ended in spectacular fashion, with Leicester Tigers’ Freddie Burns kicking a dramatic drop-goal in the dying minutes, to claim his side’s first Premiership title since 2013. Although that was only a few weeks ago, the celebrations will have already subsided, as Leicester Tigers and the rest of the Premiership cohort are already focused on the future, and the 2022-23 Gallagher Premiership season. With so much to look forward to, we’ll take a look at the first challenges facing the 13 teams once the season gets underway.
The new season begins with 2 fixtures on the evening of Friday 9 September: Bath will make the short trip to Bristol for a West Country derby, and Sale Sharks will host 2021-22 losing semifinalists Northampton Saints. Adult ticket prices start at GBP £35 at Bristol Bears v Bath, and at £28 at Sale Sharks v Saints. There's then a thrilling tripleheader in store on Saturday 10 September, with 3 matches kicking-off at 15:00: Leicester Tigers will travel to Exeter Chiefs for what promises to be a high-quality clash, London Irish will host Worcester Warriors, and 2020-21 champions Harlequins will go north to face Newcastle Falcons. Tickets for the Chiefs-Tigers match start at £40 for an adult, it’s just £20 for an adult to see London Irish v Worcester Warriors, and in Newcastle prices start from £22. The opening weekend then concludes on Sunday 11 September, when Gloucester welcome Wasps to Kingsholm for a battle between 2 potential “best of the rest” contenders; adult ticket prices there start from £20.
Round 2 of the 2022-23 season will then see London Irish travel to Northampton, Bath host Sale Sharks, Leicester Tigers face-off against Newcastle Falcons, Bristol Bears play away at Wasps, and Worcester Warriors do battle against Exeter Chiefs. The pick of that weekend’s fixtures, though, will be Harlequins v Saracens, at 15:00 on Saturday 17 September. Both Harlequins and Saracens will have one eye on the play-off spots, even as early as the second week of the season, so expect an exciting match between 2 very strong sides. Adult ticket prices at the Twickenham Stoop start from £35.
In round 3, highlights will include Gloucester’s trip to London to play Saracens - the Cherry and Whites were the only team to win away at the StoneX Stadium during last season’s Premiership – and Exeter Chiefs v Harlequins, another huge clash for Quins so early in the season. Adult ticket prices for Saracens v Gloucester start at £30, whilst in Exeter, adults can pick up a ticket for £40.
With plenty more fixtures scheduled, and with discounted tickets available at a whole host of matches, it’s a great time to look ahead to the new season and start planning a day at the rugby. For more information on the Gallagher Premiership, including ticket prices, click here.
