Cricket fans will be delighted to hear that the schedule for the most fast-paced format of the international game has been released. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 will occur in some of Oman and the UAE's most iconic cities and stadiums, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, between 17 October – 14 November 2021.
The event was initially scheduled for 2020 in Australia but was postponed to 2021 and relocated to India due to COVID-19. However, due to the increased risk of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the T20 World Cup was forced to relocate again, this time to the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Fortunately, the UAE aren’t strangers to hosting high-profile cricket tournaments, having hosted the Qualifier rounds of the T20 World Cup in 2019.
Whilst there will be no home advantage to Australia and India, the tournament is still set to be a thrilling event for all nations taking part. Dinesh Karthik, the previous captain of the Indian cricket team, stated that:
"The schedule announcement takes us one step closer to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and is the point from where teams start chalking out their final plans."
"Players in the T20 format have only gotten more skilful over the past five years since the last edition, and I bet we are in for some scintillating performances and nerve-wracking thrillers."
The first round of the competition will feature 8 teams competing for a spot in the Super 12 – Ireland, Netherlands, Namibia, and Sri Lanka make up Group A, while Oman, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, and Bangladesh comprise Group B. After that, the top 2 teams from each group will move to the second round of the event, where they'll take on the likes of England, Australia, South Africa, and current World Cup trophy holders, West Indies.
Tickets for the ICC T20 World Cup are not yet on sale; however, fans can still check out the tournament's schedule, dates, and venues!
