The Millrose Games is a legendary fixture on the athletics calendar, bringing the sport’s greatest competitors to New York City for a bumper day of World Indoor Tour track and field events.
The next Games will be held at the Armory on 11 February 2024 and will mark the 116th edition of the event. The very first edition took place in 1908, when employees at the John Wanamaker Department Store formed the recreational Millrose Athletic Association. The name was chosen for Rodman Wanamaker’s country home, Millrose, in Pennsylvania. The earliest versions of the Millrose Games were hosted at a local armory, but the event moved to Madison Square Garden in 1914 when the crowds of spectators became far too big for the original venue.
In 1926, another famous aspect of the Games was born. Early versions had included a 1.5-mile race, but this distance was shortened to create the Wanamaker Mile, which remains the signature competition of the Millrose Games.
Since 2012, the Games have been held at the Armory in Washington Heights, nicknamed “the fastest track in the world.” While the event historically took place on a Friday evening, the schedule changed with the move away from Madison Square Garden, and the new format sees a whole Saturday of action.
Tickets are now on sale for the 2024 edition, with prices starting at USD $48. A wide range of views is available, so you can find the best spot for watching your favourite track and field events.
