UEFA Champions League
After an electrifying UEFA Champions League group stage – the last in its current format before the adoption a different configuration next season – the 8 group winners and 8 runners-up have progressed to the Round of 16, which will be held across February and March 2024.
The draw for the last 16, which was made on Monday, is as follows:
1st Legs
- FC Copenhagen vs Manchester City, 13 February
- RB Leipzig vs Real Madrid, 13 February
- Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad, 14 February
- Lazio vs Bayern Munich, 14 February
- Inter Milan vs Atletico Madrid, 20 February
- PSV Eindhoven vs Borussia Dortmund, 20 February
- Porto vs Arsenal, 21 February
- Napoli vs Barcelona, 21 February
2nd Legs
- Real Sociedad vs Paris Saint-Germain, 5 March
- Bayern Munich vs Lazio, 5 March
- Manchester City vs FC Copenhagen, 6 March
- Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig, 6 March
- Arsenal vs Porto, 12 March
- Barcelona vs Napoli, 12 March
- Atletico Madrid vs Inter Milan, 13 March
- Borossia Dortmund vs PSV Eindhoven, 13 March
The most exciting tie of the round is arguably Inter Milan vs Atletico Madrid. Inter are leading the title charge in Serie A this season as they look to win their 20th scudetto. Atleti sit 3rd in La Liga amid Girona’s remarkable title push in this campaign, but they were imperious in the group stage as they went unbeaten in their 6 games. Only Manchester City accrued more than their 17 goals, with forwards Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann each finding the net 5 times apiece.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad will be another to keep an eye on. While on paper PSG’s riches and star power should make them favourites, it is La Real who topped their group. The Spanish side racked up 12 points in Group D, which also featured Inter, Benfica, and Red Bull Salzburg, conceding just 2 goals, fewer than any other side. As for the Parisians, they scraped through a difficult group that contained Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, and Newcastle United, and they’ve exited the competition in the Round of 16 on 5 occasions since 2017.

Milan vs Rennes is among the most intriguing of the ties. The Rossoneri have had the honour of lifting the European Cup/Champions League on no fewer than 7 occasions, but they are yet to add the UEFA. Europa League to their considerable trophy cabinet. In 2022 they ended an 11-year wait for the Serie A title, and European silverware would help them further cement their return to their natural position among the continent’s elite.
