The Australian Open, then called the Australasian Championships, first took place in 1905. Whilst plenty has changed since that inaugural edition – the competition was reserved for men only, matches took place on grass, not hard courts, and its current home in Melbourne Park is worlds away from the humble Albert Cricket Ground where it was first held – the tournament has remained a staple of the international tennis calendar. As a Grand Slam tournament, it is now one of the most prestigious events on the professional tour.
The Australian Open’s professional renown is also matched by its famously fun-filled atmosphere, a factor which has contributed to it being the highest-attended Grand Slam of the 4. At the beginning of every tennis season, Melbourne Park becomes a festival site, its impressive arena show courts surrounded by food, drink, music, and merriment. With tickets now on general sale, fans can once again begin planning their trips to the state of Victoria, where plenty of good times and great players await, between 16-29 January 2023.
Single session tickets are currently on sale across Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena, the tournament’s 2 main show courts. Ground Passes are also on sale, with general admission access to John Cain Arena, the third show court, included.
Adult ticket prices on Rod Laver Arena start from AUD $69 in the Upper Tier, and from $65 in the Upper Tier of Margaret Court Arena. Ground Passes start from just $19, for an adult. There is also a great range of discounts available on arena tickets and on Ground Passes, for everyone from children and students, to senior citizens, military personnel, and handicapped persons.
