Founded in 1952 as the San Diego Open, the Farmers Insurance Open has been a popular stop on the PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing for more than 70 years. After moving between a number of venues in its early years, the tournament finally settled at Torrey Pines Golf Course in 1968. A 36-hole public facility, Torrey Pines boasts a pair of championship courses, North and South. Play over the first 2 rounds at the Farmers Insurance Open is typically divided between them, before the final 2 rounds are held exclusively on the more prestigious South course, which hosted the US Open in 2008 and 2021.
In 2025, the defending champion will be France’s Matthieu Pavon, who triumphed by a single stroke ahead of Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard in the most recent edition. Pavon made history as the first Frenchman to win on the PGA Tour since 1907, although the 2024 competition might be even better remembered for Shane Lowry’s stunning 256-yard albatross on the par-5 6th hole.
