Arsenal Women FC are a professional women's football club based in London, England. They split their home games between Meadow Park, which they share with Boreham Wood, and the Emirates Stadium.
📜 Arsenal Women History
Arsenal Women were founded in 1987 by Vic Akers, the long-time kit man for the Gunners' men's team, who was subsequently appointed as the team's first manager. They were known until 2011 as Arsenal Ladies.
Akers took charge of the team until he retired in 2009, guiding the team to a remarkable 35 honours during that period including 11 league titles – 6 of which were consecutive – 9 FA Cups, and the UEFA Women's Cup. On 6 occasions they managed to go unbeaten over the course of a full campaign.
Along with Akers' coaching, the Gunners' domination of women's football can also be attributed their vastly superior resources and facilities compared with many other women's teams during the 1990s and 2000s, when few men's teams offered substantial backing to their female counterparts.
The Gunners have remained a force to be reckoned with in English women's football in the years since Akers' departure and continued to pick up silverware, but with other clubs growing their women's teams and new rivals emerging, they've not been quite as relentlessly dominant as they once were.
