The Sun Devils are the football team of Arizona State University in Tempe. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the South Division of the Pac-12 Conference.
Arizona State has won 17 conference titles, including 3 Pac-12 titles. Many successful players and coaches have been associated with the team, including Hall of Fame coaches Dan Devine and John Cooper. The playing field at Sun Devil Stadium is named after another Hall of Fame coach, Frank Kush, who recorded the most wins of any head coach in the program's history.
The most intense rivalry maintained by the Sun Devils is with the Arizona Wildcats. Arizona leads the series with 49 wins to Arizona State's 40, but the Sun Devils have won every matchup since 2016.
Since 2018, the Sun Devils have been coached by former NFL cornerback Herm Edwards, who spent 8 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and finished his playing career with spells at the Atlanta Falcons and the Los Angeles Rams. Edwards also coached in the NFL, leading the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs before taking a coaching break to work as an ESPN football analyst.
