The All England Open Badminton Championships dates back over 100 years, to an 1898 tournament held in Guildford in Surrey, England – the first badminton tournament of its kind. The event, also known as the All England Open, or even just the All England, moved a short distance to the capital in 1899, and has continued to flourish since, eventually cementing its position as possibly the most illustrious badminton tournament on the professional circuit. In 1994 the event moved to Birmingham, where it has remained since.
Today, there are more than 150 matches played at the tournament across the week – there is tough competition for the prize-pot of nearly USD $1,000,000!
