📜 Aberdeen FC History
Aberdeen FC were founded in 1903 when 3 local clubs – Victoria United, Orion, and a club already bearing the name Aberdeen Football Club – merged.
They were elected to the Scottish top flight 2 years later and have never looked back. Although no other clubs in Scotland can compare with the powerhouses that are Celtic and Rangers, Aberdeen are among the most successful in the country outside that pair when it comes to silverware.
Indeed, they boast an achievement neither of the giants have matched, as the only Scottish team to win 2 European trophies. They earned both – the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup – in 1983 under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson, defeating Real Madrid and Hamburger SV respectively in the finals.
Ferguson also guided the Dons to 3 league titles, 4 Scottish Cups, and 1 Scottish League Cup in his incredibly successful tenure.
