24 Hours of Le Mans is a legendary endurance race, held annually near the French town of Le Mans. Part of the iconic Triple Crown of Motorsport (alongside the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500), the 24-hour race dates to 1923 and is eagerly awaited every year by motor racing fans.
Unlike traditional Grand Prix races that are held over a fixed distance, 24 Hours of Le Mans is won by the driving team who travels the furthest distance in 24 hours. Although the competing cars can hit speeds of over 200 mph, drivers must also take care to keep their vehicles in top condition over the course of the marathon race.
The circuit at Le Mans is 13.626 km long, and the record distance completed during 24 Hours of Le Mans is 5,410 km, or almost 400 laps of the circuit. That's the equivalent of around 18 Formula 1 Grand Prix races!
Comprising practice days, qualifying sessions, and the race itself, 24 Hours of Le Mans offers a week of iconic motorsports action.
