Turn- und Sportgemeinschaft 1899 Hoffenheim e.V. - often shortened to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and more commonly simply to 1899 Hoffenheim or just Hoffenheim - is a German professional football club based in Sinsheim, Baden-Württemberg and currently playing in the country's top tier Bundesliga. The club plays home games at Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
Formed in 1899 as the name suggests, the club was originally a gymnastics club and did not form a football section until 1945 after a merger with Fußballverein Hoffenheim (founded 1921). Although the club had a steady rise during the 1990s, it was not until the early 2000s - when Dietmar Hopp of software firm SAP started financially backing the club - that Hoffenheim began seeing more success. From 2006, much was invested into improving the club including bringing in top playing and managerial talent and Hoffenheim began to qualify for European tournaments like the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
