Young the Giant, formerly known as "The Jakes", are an American rock band from Irvine, California, United States. Blending alternative rock, indie rock and indie pop, the group centres on vocalist Sameer Gadhia with bandmates Jacob Tilley, Eric Cannata, Payam Doostzadeh and Francois Comtois.
After forming in 2004 they built a following on the Southern California circuit before signing to Roadrunner Records and releasing their self-titled debut album "Young the Giant" in 2010. Its singles "My Body", "Cough Syrup" and "Apartment" became alternative radio hits and led to high-profile appearances including the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and major festival slots.
The band expanded their sound with "Mind Over Matter" (2014), "Home of the Strange" (2016) and "Mirror Master" (2018), exploring themes of identity, migration and modern life. Their 2022 album "American Bollywood" traced Gadhia’s family history through a four-act song cycle, while their sixth full-length "Victory Garden" marks a new chapter in partnership with Fearless Records and continues to underline their reputation as one of contemporary rock’s most consistent live and studio acts.
