After a long-awaited and thrilling edition of the tournament in 2023, the World Baseball Classic (WBC) will return in 2026.
First played in 2006, the WBC is generally staged once every 4 years. The tournament attracts some of the best professional players in the world, making it the only international baseball tournament at which the winning team can truly call themselves "World Champions".
Since its inception, the WBC has been won 3 times by Japan, and once by both the USA and Dominican Republic. The likes of Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Jose Altuve all took part in 2023, and the event not only remains baseball's premier international competition, but a unique global celebration of the game.
