Utah Royals FC, often referred to simply as URFC, are a professional women’s football club based in Salt Lake City, United States. They compete in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the top tier of women’s football in the country, and are associated in the local sporting landscape with Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake through shared roots and facilities.
The original iteration of Utah Royals FC was created when the NWSL rights of FC Kansas City were transferred to Utah in 2017, with the team beginning play in the 2018 season. Across their first spell they became known for strong attendances, a committed supporter culture, and a roster featuring prominent United States and international players. Following organisational and ownership turmoil, the club ceased operations after the 2020 season, with playing rights returning to Kansas City. The Royals name and identity were later revived under new ownership, with the team re-established to compete again in the NWSL from 2024, aiming to build a sustainable long‑term presence for elite women’s football in Utah.
