📜 History

Occupying 63 acres of a former Air Force base, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (more commonly known as the Nassau Coliseum) is a New York-based venue with a long history of quality events to its name. Situated in the town of Hempstead, within the Uniondale ZIP code, the Coliseum was home to the NHL's New York Islanders between 1972–2015, and has hosted several of the team's games since. The New York Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets) also made use of the arena from 1972–1977, and while the team has since moved on, the Nets' G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, now play their games at the arena.

As well as hosting a range of boxing, tennis, soccer, and mixed martial arts events through the years, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum is a regular venue for professional wrestling, and even held the opening leg of WrestleMania II – an ambitious spectacle staged at 3 venues across the US. In 2017, the arena underwent its most significant renovation to date, changing its name to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in the process, following a deal with New York Community Bank. Costing around $89 million, the redevelopment and modernization mean the Coliseum remains a vastly popular venue for visitors and athletes alike.
