Downtown, the city’s bustling commercial and financial centre is home to the best shopping, dining, and nightlife in Buffalo. The locale is ideal for first-time visitors who want to get a sense of the city and have everything they want to explore at their feet.

As Downtown is the commercial centre for mainstream shops and bars, the neighbouring Allentown is its indie sister. From the street murals and art galleries to the vintage shops and eclectic bars and eateries, the area is all about the alternative.

The student-populated University Heights is another cool alternative to Downtown, and offers its very own vibrant nightlife. It’s also one of the more affordable areas to stay in Buffalo.

Families might prefer Elmwood Village and other neighbourhoods surrounding Delaware Park. Leafy and quiet, they are a charming contrast to Downtown, and there’s plenty of family-friendly activities to see and do nearby like Buffalo Zoo and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

If you’re itching to see Niagara Falls, there’s also plenty of hotels to stay in nearby. As the waterfall is one of the country’s top landmarks, accommodation prices in this area can be pretty high.
