To immerse in the history and culture of Savannah and the Deep South, stay in the Historic District where many of the city’s period mansions, museums, and markets can be found. Whilst many of the top attractions will be within walking distance, many of the city’s top bars and restaurants will be right at your feet too.
For a more modern and relaxed stay in Savannah, find accommodation around River Street Market, the upmarket riverfront neighbourhood with boutique shopping and scenic dining. Located just a few blocks from the Historic District, it is the perfect place from which to explore the sights during the day and relax at in the evenings.
Budget travellers might prefer to stay in Yamacraw Village located immediately west of Downtown Savannah. While it may not be central to the city’s main cultural highlights, the district is home to a number of top museums including the SCAD Museum of Art and the Georgia State Railroad Museum. Quieter and more residential than central Savannah, this area might also be better suited to families.
