To explore Sacramento like a true tourist, stay Downtown near top highlights like the State Capitol and Old Sacramento, the cultural hub of the city. Of course, Downtown is also packed with places to eat, bars to mingle in, and live entertainment to watch.
With breweries, vintage shops, cocktail bars, second-hand book stores, and all other things urban-contemporary, Midtown is often considered the cooler younger sister of Downtown with a historic facade. During the day, Midtown is a great place to relax and hang out if you aren’t exploring the city, and at night, it’s a great place to let loose and party.
Families might prefer to stay in Land Park, which is filled with family-friendly attractions including an amusement park, zoo, and fairytale-themed play park. It is quiet and neighbourly, yet just a few minutes from the lights and sights of Downtown.
For a refined Sacramento experience, stay among the leafy streets of East Sacramento. Located immediately east of Midtown, this friendly neighbourhood is cool and quirky but with a sprinkle of luxury. Whilst you can grab a hot dog from a food truck in McKinley Park and watch an open-air movie, you can also browse its upscale boutiques and stop for coffee in an artisanal cafe.
Whilst many of Sacramento’s attractions in the Downtown area are within walking distance from each other, those staying in outer neighbourhoods would benefit from hiring a car.
