The Australian Pink Floyd Show, also known as Aussie Floyd, is a progressive and psychedelic rock tribute band formed in Adelaide, Australia, in 1988. Originally called Think Floyd, the group was assembled by guitarist Lee Smith with fellow musicians including Grant Ross, Trevor Turton, Steve Mac and Jason Sawford, united by a commitment to performing Pink Floyd’s music.
After building a following in Australia, the band travelled to the United Kingdom for a Pink Floyd convention in 1993 and adopted its present name. Its international profile grew rapidly, notably after David Gilmour invited the group to perform at his 50th-birthday celebration. The show has since toured extensively, recreating Pink Floyd’s concert repertoire with elaborate lighting, projections, inflatables and a signature flying kangaroo.
Notable releases include the live recording and film “Live at Hammersmith Apollo 2011”, alongside concert DVDs such as “Live at Liverpool Kings Dock Waterfront Arena” and “Exposed in the Light”. The group remains an active touring act, presenting large-scale tributes to Pink Floyd’s catalogue.
