The Sri Lanka national women's cricket team made its international debut in 1997, playing a 3-match series in the One Day International format against The Netherlands. Later that year, they debuted at the World Cup in India. Since then, the team has participated in 5 more World Cups, as well as 6 Women's T20 World Cups. Although Sri Lanka is traditionally regarded as an underdog in women's cricket, the team can claim one of the biggest upsets in the sport's history – beating top-ranked England at the 2013 World Cup.
