Visiting Ljubljana
Overlooked by its defining medieval hilltop castle, the Slovienian capital of Ljubljana is the enthralling product of Habsburg, Yugoslavian, and French influence. Its old quarter is a delicate blend of Austrian Baroque and French Art Nouveau buildings in different pastel shades. However, it’s the tree-lined Ljubljanica river crowned with impressive stone-arched bridges that really steal the heart. After years of repression from different rulers, Slovenia finally gained its independence in 1991, and since then, the city of Ljubljana has made the most of its freedom of expression with a progressive arts and culture scene.
