North Carolina Courage FC, often shortened to NC Courage or simply the Courage, are a professional women’s football club based in Cary, North Carolina, United States. They compete in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the top tier of women’s football in the United States.
The club was established in 2017 after the relocation of the Western New York Flash NWSL franchise to North Carolina under new ownership associated with North Carolina FC. Building on the foundations of the Flash, the Courage quickly became one of the league’s dominant sides, noted for an intense, pressing style and deep squads filled with domestic and international talent.
They have secured multiple NWSL Shields as regular-season champions and have also won the NWSL Championship, underlining a period of sustained success in the late 2010s. Further silverware has included domestic cup competition triumphs and success in an international women’s club tournament, reinforcing their status as a leading women’s club side.
