The Liège-Bastogne-Liège is a classic one-day cycling race held in Belgium, in late April each year. Being the oldest of the 5 Monument races in cycling, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège is often referred to as La Doyenne (“The Old Lady”).
The race’s inaugural edition was organised in 1892 by French-Belgian newspaper L’Express. As the name suggests, the route has always been held within the French-speaking southern part of Belgium, where both Liège and Bastogne are located. Due to the hillier geography of southern Belgium, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège is considered the most challenging one-day race, often favouring climbers.
The race’s current route takes riders through the 2 eastern Walloon provinces of Belgium - Liège and Luxembourg. The first leg of the course is a 95km run south to Bastogne. The second leg is a winding 163km route back to Liège, featuring a number of challenging climbs. It is this second part of the race that pushes riders to their absolute limits.
The men's Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the women's race, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes, are held on the same day.
Liège-Bastogne-Liège Tickets
The race takes place over public roads and so no entry ticket is required to watch the cyclists; simply choose your spot along the route and get there in plenty of time before road closures to cheer them on. Hospitality tickets are available at the start and final part of the route.
