Arguably the most successful national baseball team of all-time, the Japan Baseball Team has won a huge number of major international baseball tournaments, including the Asian Championship, Asian Games, Intercontinental Cup, and WBSC Premier12.
Known by the nickname Samurai Japan, the Japan Baseball Team has also participated in every Summer Olympic Games in which baseball has been played. Japan won gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, defeating the USA in the Final.
Some of Japan's greatest performances have come in the World Baseball Classic – baseball's premier international competition. With 4 top four finishes, more than anyone else, the Japan Baseball Team is the tournament's most successful side. The team has won the tournament twice, in 2006 and 2009.
In recent years, some of the top players in the world have played for the Japan Baseball Team, including pitcher Yu Darvish, outfielder Seiya Suzuki, and two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani.
