Based on rankings and recent history, netball is the top women's sport in Jamaica and the number 1 team sport in the country. As a testament to this, since their Netball World Cup debut in 1959, the Sunshine Girls have finished no lower than sixth place.
The team's best result at a major tournament was a second place finish at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Jamaica has finished in third place at 4 separate Netball World Cup events (1991, 2003, 2007, and 2023).
