The history of the Irish national women’s cricket team extends back to 1987 when they played their first ODI (One Day International) series against Australia. Although Ireland lost all 3 matches of the series, the team was still invited to take part in the 1988 Women’s Cricket World Cup. Ireland finished fourth in that competition – their best World Cup result to date. The team’s most significant achievements include winning 2 European Championships (2001, 2009), as well as winning the 2003 Women’s World Cup Qualifier, and the 2015 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier.
