Known as the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing," the Indianapolis 500 is one of the oldest and most famous motor races in the world.
The Indy 500 is part of the IndyCar Series, a competition for open-wheel, open-cockpit cars in the United States. Held annually in May, the race sees 33 cars attempt to complete 200 laps of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit, a distance totalling 500 miles.
Along with the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Indy 500 is considered part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport. The event dates back to 1911, and still features many long-standing ceremonies and traditions, such as the singing of "Back Home Again in Indiana" before the race. Since 1937, the winner has been presented with a celebratory bottle of milk.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the highest-capacity sports venue on the globe, and each year upwards of 300,000 fans pack the stands to see this unforgettable show. Don't miss one of the biggest parties in motorsports!
