France women's national football team, also known as Les Bleues, represents the country in international competitions such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games, and UEFA European Women's Championship.
History
Although France played their first official international match in 1971, their history can be traced back to 1920 when a French team traveled to England to face Dick, Kerr Ladies in a friendly match. However, the French women's football league – the Fédération des Sociétés Féminines Sportives de France (FSFSF) – was discontinued in 1932, and it was not until the late 1960s that women's football began its revival.
It took time for Les Bleues to establish themselves on the world stage; they did not make their European Championship, World Cup, and Olympic debuts until 1997, 2003, and 2012, respectively.
Unlike their male counterparts, major international honours have been hard to come by for France. However, they have picked up minor silverware on a number of occasions in recent years, including the Cyprus Cup, SheBelieves Cup, and the Tournoi de France.
