Empire of the Sun are an Australian electronic music duo from Sydney, New South Wales, formed by Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore. Their sound blends electropop, synth-pop, dance-rock, electro-rock and new wave with a strong visual aesthetic built around theatrical costumes and cinematic staging.
Their debut album "Walking on a Dream" (2008) was an international breakthrough, spawning hit singles such as "Walking on a Dream" and "We Are the People" and earning multiple ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year. They followed with "Ice on the Dune" (2013) and "Two Vines" (2016), expanding their lush, retro-futurist pop style. After several years focused on other projects, they returned with the single "AEIOU" and, later, the album "Ask That God" (2024), alongside tracks like "Changes", "Music on the Radio", "Alive" and "High and Low". The duo remain renowned for immersive live shows and vividly imaginative visuals.
