Atlanta Dream, also known simply as the Dream, are a professional women's basketball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. They compete in the Eastern Conference of the Women's National Basketball Association and play their home games at Gateway Center Arena. They are not affiliated with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.
Atlanta Dream History
The Dream were founded in 2007, bringing professional women's basketball back to Atlanta after the Atlanta Glory of the American Basketball League folded in 1998. The team's name was chosen as an homage to Atlanta native Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
Atlanta got off to an inauspicious start in their first season, losing their first 17 consecutive games before finally earning a victory, and the campaign ended with a calamitous 4-30 record.
However, the team quickly improved and they earned conference titles in 2010, 2011, and 2013, although they failed to win the WNBA Finals on each occasion.
