As 1 of just 3 surviving members of the original 11 teams that formed what would become the NBA – the Basketball Association of America (BAA) – in 1946, the Golden State Warriors have a long and storied history. They were first founded as the Philadelphia Warriors before relocating to San Francisco in 1962, and later adopted the Golden State name in 1971.
Although they’ve not had quite as much success as the Boston Celtics or the Los Angeles Lakers, who each sit on 17 NBA championships apiece, the Warriors’ 7 titles puts them ahead of the rest of the league. To make things even more impressive, 4 of those championships have come since 2015 having reached 6 finals in that time, in no small part thanks to the heroics of icons such as Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
