After being postponed by a year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Rugby League World Cup 2021 finally kicked-off in Newcastle on 15 October 2022. Whilst a lot of matches have already been played, there is still plenty of rugby league action remaining, still plenty of World Cup history to be made - and there are even a few last-minute tickets left for fans to snap-up!
Back on the opening day, England Men recorded a crushing 60-6 against Samoa Men, and the hosts have been unrelenting since: England’s men, women, and wheelchair side have all made the most of home advantage, and are among the favourites in all 3 competitions – but going all the way will be far from easy!
In the men’s draw, the knock-out stage is well underway, with just 2 semifinals and the grand final left to play. Joining England in the final 4 are Australia, New Zealand, and opening day opponents Samoa. Australia Men and New Zealand Men will face-off in Leeds on Friday 11 November, whilst England and Samoa will meet again, this time at the Emirates Stadium in London, on Saturday 12 November. Adult ticket prices for both men’s semifinals start at GBP £30 per match. Following those clashes, the semifinal victors will meet on Saturday 19 November at Old Trafford, where the Rugby League World Cup 2021 winners will be crowned.
It won’t just be the men’s trophy at stake on 19 November, though: the Old Trafford fixture will be a doubleheader, with the women’s trophy also up for grabs in Manchester. Before they start planning for the final, however, the world’s best female rugby league teams must advance from their groups and battle through the semifinals. Canada Women versus Brazil Women and England Women v Papua New Guinea Women – a doubleheader of Group A matches – will both be played at Headingley Stadium in Leeds on Wednesday 9 November, with prices starting at £20.21 for an adult, with access to both matches included. A day later, Group B will conclude at York’s LNER Community Stadium, where France Women will take-on Cook Islands Women, and Australia Women will play against New Zealand Women, with adult doubleheader tickets starting at just £10. The women’s semifinals will then both take place at the LNER Community Stadium on Monday 14 November; tickets for both matches start at £20.21.
In the wheelchair competition, Australia versus Spain and England versus Ireland will both take place at London’s Copper Box Arena on Wednesday 9 November, before France versus USA and Wales versus Scotland wrap-up the group stage action at The EIS Sheffield the following day. Adult tickets for the former doubleheader start at £20.21, and at £10 for the latter doubleheader. Both wheelchair semifinals will then be played at The EIS Sheffield on Sunday 13 November, and the wheelchair final will take place 5 days later, at Manchester Central. Semifinal doubleheader tickets start at £20.21 for an adult, as do tickets for the grand final.
