With just 2 more rounds of NFL action left in the season, most playoff spots have been clinched. A few places remain open in each conference, but fans can already start making predictions about the teams most likely to reach the biggest game in the sport – the all-important Super Bowl.
In 2023, Super Bowl LVII will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This will be the venue’s third time hosting the event. The game will take place on Sunday 12 February 2023, with kick-off scheduled for 16:30 MST.
The Super Bowl is renowned for its half-time shows as much as for its football, and at Super Bowl LVII the starring performer will be global icon Rihanna. In her first live show for 5 years, the Barbadian superstar will light up the stage for those lucky fans inside the stadium and for the millions watching on TV around the world.
So the logistical details and half-time show are set – but what about the football teams?
Each of the NFL’s 2 conferences – the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC) – send 7 teams to the playoffs.
AFC
In the AFC, 5 of the 7 available playoff spots have already been claimed. The teams certainly heading to the playoffs are the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Bills and Chiefs have enjoyed the most successful seasons so far, each holding a 12-3 record and respectively sitting in first place in the AFC East and AFC West. Despite leading the AFC South division, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a 7-8 record this season and cannot be guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
NFC
There are 4 playoff teams already confirmed in the NFC: the Philadelphia Eagles, the Minnesota Vikings, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Dallas Cowboys.
The Eagles have the strongest record of any NFL team, going 13-2 so far this year. They sit first in the NFC East, while the Vikings lead the NFC North division and the 49ers the NFC West. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently first in the NFC South, but have not yet secured their place in the playoffs. If the season ended today, the Bucs, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders would make it through – but there are 2 rounds still to play.
Who will play in Super Bowl LVII?
Nobody can say for sure which teams will make it to the Super Bowl, and there is still plenty of decisive football left to play. At the moment, though, the favourites to go all the way are the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the San Francisco 49ers.
